Download Images Without Duplicates — Bulk Image Downloader Pro
Open a fresh download folder and find photo.jpg, photo(1).jpg, and photo-800.jpg showing the same picture—cleanup should not eat your afternoon. To download images without duplicates, remove repeats before files hit disk: duplicate URLs, resize variants, visual twins, and filename collisions each need a different fix.
Bulk Image Downloader Pro handles dedupe locally in Chrome on the options page and in task lists before download starts.
Step 1: beat duplicate URLs first
The cheapest win is identical strings pasted twice, or the same asset reachable through near-identical addresses. URL deduplication scans your task list, groups exact matches, and lets you remove repeats in one pass with undo if you trim too aggressively.
Step 2: drop size variants with filters
CDNs and galleries often expose one photo at three widths. Before download:
- set a minimum width so only the largest render passes
- add Download IF URL rules—Not Contains
thumbor smallw=values when sizes live in the query string
Rules run at download time, so your source list stays intact while only the copies you want save.
Step 3: catch visual twins the URL list cannot see
Two unrelated URLs can hold identical pixels. Open the options page Duplicate Finder tab, choose one task or All Tasks, pick a sensitivity preset (Strict, Balanced, or Aggressive), set a keep rule (largest resolution by default), and run the scan.
Licensed PRO handles full batches (up to 600 URLs per scan); Try PRO evaluates one URL/source for testing. Review groups, then Remove Non-Kept from tasks so visual duplicates never download.
Step 4: prevent filename collisions on disk
Even distinct images clash when sources share a filename—Chrome then appends (1), which looks like a duplicate problem. The Filename Constructor with auto-incrementing sequences and optional timestamp tokens gives every file a unique, ordered name. Auto Folders can nest by domain or task so parallel projects do not overwrite each other.
Step 5: run the routine before every large batch
- URL deduplication on the task list
- dimension and Download IF URL filters for size variants
- perceptual duplicate finder with manual review of groups
- Filename Constructor (and Auto Folders when juggling clients or projects)
Cleaning on disk after the fact is slower and lossier than filtering the task list upfront.
Tier note
Basic (Free) supports URL-list downloads. Perceptual duplicate finder, advanced filters, Filename Constructor, and Auto Folders require Try PRO or Licensed PRO.
Install Bulk Image Downloader Pro when duplicate-free folders should be the default, not a manual chore.
